The hair in your scalp may at any time in one of 3 different phases of activity. The first or
Anagenic or growth phase lasts several years, and is a period of continuous hair growth.
The second or Catagenic phase is when hair follicular activity diminishes and growth
decreases. This is usually last several weeks. The third or Telogenic phase is the dormant
phase when hair-loss occurs this normally lasts several months. In a normal scalp, more than
80% of hair follicles are in the Anagenic phase, when accelerated hairloss occurs, a shift to
the Telogenic phase occurs.
